The Essential Facts of Backgammon Tactics – Part 2

As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of skill and pure luck. The goal is to move your checkers carefully around the board to your home board and at the same time your opposition shifts their pieces toward their inside board in the opposite direction. With opposing player pieces heading in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for specific techniques at specific times. Here are the last two Backgammon techniques to round out your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the purpose of the blocking plan is to slow down the opponent to shift her pieces, the Priming Game plan is to completely block any movement of the opposing player by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s checkers will either get hit, or end up in a bad position if he/she ever attempts to leave the wall. The trap of the prime can be established anyplace between point two and point 11 in your game board. As soon as you have successfully assembled the prime to stop the activity of the opponent, the opponent does not even get to roll the dice, and you move your pieces and toss the dice again. You will win the game for sure.

The Back Game Tactic

The goals of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game tactic are very similar – to hurt your opponent’s positions hoping to improve your odds of winning, however the Back Game strategy uses alternate tactics to do that. The Back Game strategy is often used when you’re far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this technique, you have to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This strategy is more difficult than others to play in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your checkers and how the chips are moved is partially the result of the dice toss.
